Floating in the forest

Located in suburb of Yokohama, the house is nestled among Shirakashi and Sawara trees on a sloping, wooded site.

It was designed to meet two key client requests: consolidating living spaces on one level and ensuring rain-free access from the parking area.

The main living areas are elevated to the tree canopy level, offering clear views and privacy, while the ground floor houses parking and a versatile piloti space. A central courtyard connects all rooms, enhancing natural light, ventilation, and indoor-outdoor flow. The circular layout promotes movement and subtle connections between spaces, with sliding doors that open the courtyard into an expansive living area.

The steel-structured ground floor adapts to the site’s slope, creating a bright, multi-use space beneath the eaves. Sustainable features include deep eaves, adjustable awnings, natural ventilation, high-performance glazing, and insulated flooring, ensuring year-round comfort.

The home harmonizes with its forest surroundings, offering a peaceful, nature-connected living environment.
